I miss seeing all the faces!  That’s how it started, as simple as that! 

I will choose a song, be it a cappella or be it with accompaniment, I will teach you via Google Meet in a few sessions.  Note: these Virtual Sings can no way replace our regular rehearsals! You will only hear yourself and me, me and more me!

To take advantage of this situation, there is something that you can experiment with during these special sessions.  For example, you can learn all parts in the song! In a normal rehearsal situation, you won’t get the time to do that.  But now, being at your own home, you can learn and sing all the parts. This is actually a very important skill for any chorister.  You will know so much more about the song when you know the bigger picture.  

How

We are using Google Meet for our Virtual Sings.  You don’t need any fancy equipment – just some earphones / headphones, your device (phone / tablet will need to install google meet) or computer.  If you are using your chrome browser, you might want to install the grid extension here:

This will allow you to see everyone at the same time instead of the default 3 or 4.  

An invitation will be sent to you every time when there is a Virtual Sing via email.  You just need to click onto the link at the time listed to join. At the beginning of the session, we will chat for a bit with the mics on.  When we actually start the SING, you will need to mute yourself for the whole time.  There is no tech in the world that can deal with latency at the moment.  And that’s why you will only be able to hear me.  

When

I will run these sessions during lunchtimes and evenings.  Each session will last for about 1 hour.  

Who

I am Celia!  I have been conducting choirs since I was 11. I have worked with children at the age of 5 to adult community singers.  I studied music in university and I play the piano.  

And…

In these difficult times, I don’t want anyone to be turned away from singing because of financial reasons.  However, being fair to the music arrangers, publishers and me, I want to set a min. fee of HK$80 (US$10, UK£8) PER SONG.  About HK$20 will go to music purchase, the rest will go to me for my time.  If you are able to pay a bit more, it is the most appreciated. To give you a reference, our regular rehearsals cost about HK$100 per hour.  That is with venue rental, pianist, 10 times more music and me. At Virtual Sing, I think we will spend no more than 8 sessions (hours) per song.  You are not expected to participate at every session.
